David Moyes breaks silence on West Ham United future amid sack talk

David Moyes has confirmed that he has been offered a new contract by West Ham, but he won’t decide on signing it until the end of the season.

The veteran coach is due to see his contract at the London Stadium expire at the end of the current campaign, with speculation he could leave after a string of poor results in recent weeks.

Reports suggest the Hammers have already opened talks with Graham Potter and Julen Lopetegui, while Thomas Tuchel has also been named as a potential target to replace Moyes.

However the Scottish boss says there is an offer on the table from the club, believed to run until 2026, but he is the one delaying the decision on his future rather than David Gold and Karren Brady.

“I’ve had really good conversations with the owners, with David [Sullivan] and Karren Brady,“ he told reporters, as quoted by the Evening Standard (23 February).

“There’s a contract there for me and I’m the one deciding I want to wait until the end of the season.”

Craziness from the West Ham board

At this point, the board are just openly mocking the West Ham fans by ignoring their pleas and giving Moyes a new deal.

The relationship between the manager and the fan base is completely broken, with the supporters unfurling “Moyes Out” banners after the defeat to Nottingham Forest and the manager openly arguing back against them in the press conference.

But it seems that the board are intent on keeping him around, and if the contract they offered him last year is still valid they’re clearly happy for him to stay.

West Ham United fans held up a ‘Moyes Out’ banner amid rising pressure on David Moyes.

In an ideal world this is just Moyes trying to stop the speculation around his future by saying things are all good between him and the board, but the situation behind the scenes could well be very different.

It seems like everyone will have to wait and see, which means talk will be rife and it could effect the performance of the players on the pitch. This needs to be addressed quickly.
