David Moyes backed to snub new management job after West Ham United exit
Chris Sutton has backed David Moyes to snub the opportunity to become the new Scotland manager following his West Ham United exit.
The Scotsman ended his second spell in charge at the London Stadium when his contract expired at the end of last season, with Julen Lopetegui hired as his replacement ahead of the current Premier League campaign.
Moyes is yet to take up a new management post following his exit and BBC Sport pundit Sutton isn’t convinced he’d want to take over his national side if Steve Clarke was sacked after a poor run of results.
Speaking on It’s All Kicking Off (14 October, 33:20) he said: “One win in 15 isn’t a good look but the performances are there. That’s probably not comforting to Scottish fans at this moment in time.
“The name which stands out if Steve Clarke does go would be David Moyes. Would he be keen to take that job? I’m not sure he would.”
Where is David Moyes now after his West Ham and London Stadium exit?
Hammers fans will always be told that they were wrong to want Moyes gone last season and while that could well be true, the majority of supporters will be eager to see the Scotsman back in the dugout sooner rather than later.
On the face of it, taking over from Clarke at Hampden Park makes perfect sense. Moyes’ defensive style of football should be a natural fit on the international stage and he has managed to lift silverware as the underdog in competitions.
The ultimate question will be whether or not he feels ready to make the move to international management. The Scotsman may well feel that he is more than capable of taking on another club role before slowing down in his career.

Although it feels like Moyes has been around football forever, he is only 61 years old. Other managers have continued managing in the Premier League into their 70s and the former Hammers boss could well do the same.
It would be nice to see him take on another Premier League job however so that he could get the reception he deserves from the London Stadium crowd.
