David Moyes axes Aaron Cresswell in two changes – West Ham United confirmed XI v Aston Villa
David Moyes has made two changes to his starting lineup for the West Ham game against Aston Villa on Sunday (17 March).
Ahead of kick-off, the Hammers confirmed via their official Twitter account that Alphonse Areola will return in goal, with Vladimir Coufal, Kurt Zouma, Konstantinos Mavropanos and Emerson making up the back four.
Edson Alvarez will be joined in midfield by Tomas Soucek, with Lucas Paqueta, Jarrod Bowen, Mohammed Kudus and Michail Antonio starting in the attacking positions.
That means keeper Lukasz Fabianski and Aaron Cresswell have dropped out of the side that beat Freiburg 5-0 on Thursday (14 March).
West Ham have opportunity to build momentum against Aston Villa
The game against Villa presents West Ham with an excellent opportunity to build up some momentum on the back of the convincing victory over Freiburg.
In what has been a mixed calendar year for the Hammers, the win over the Bundesliga side was by far their best performance over the past few months.
Although the international break could come at the wrong if the Irons secure the three points against the Villans, they can ensure the fans go into the two-week break in good spirits.
It will no doubt be a difficult game after Unai Emery’s side have had a superb season so far as they find themselves challenging for a Champions League place.
But they have been suffering with injuries lately and that could present us with a decent chance of claiming a victory at the London Stadium.
