David Moyes appointment: West Ham verdict after new update today

Jason Cundy has urged West Ham to cut ties with David Moyes and not hire him for a third time.

The Scot managed the Hammers across two spells and has spoken out about his time in East London since departing.

His replacement, Julen Lopetegui has come under fire with another 4-1 defeat at Manchester City on Saturday, where Moyes was present in the stands.

If the Spaniard is to lose his job at the London Stadium, Cundy has told talkSPORT (4 January) to stay away from bringing the 61-year-old back for a third time.

He said: “I think West Ham have to cut that umbilical cord. I think they have to move away from Moyes. I don’t think they can go back again.

“Where does that leave you next season? If you go back a third time, the writing’s on the wall.”

There is plenty of uncertainty over the future of the former Real Madrid manager in East London after a string of poor performances.

The defeat against Manchester City may not be the final straw but could prove to be one step towards the inevitable in the coming weeks.

Pep Guardiola’s side have struggled for results themselves but still managed to net four in their biggest goal haul since October.

If David Sullivan and Co. do opt to sack Lopetegui, there will be obvious links to Moyes who has already returned to the Hammers once.

This may prove to be a risk-free appointment for the Irons but would certainly represent a step back, especially after the level of signings made in the summer.

Cundy is right, the E20 club need to look to the future rather than living in the past and re-hiring the ex-Everton boss would certainly represent the latter.
