David Moyes and David Sullivan in West Ham United talks about players during World Cup

West Ham United manager David Moyes has revealed he and co-owner David Sullivan have been in conversation “about players” during the World Cup break, as the January transfer window draws ever closer.

The Hammers are currently languishing just a point above the Premier League relegation zone and are set for a trip to league-leaders Arsenal on Boxing Day as they look to reverse their fortunes.

Moyes has subsequently come under increasing pressure at the London Stadium and is likely to dip into the January transfer market to bolster his underperforming squad.

Speaking in a live Q&A for the club’s official YouTube channel, Moyes revealed that Sullivan was the last person he had received a call from on his phone and that they had been discussing ongoing proceedings at the club.

He said: “The last person I received a call or message from was David Sullivan, our owner.

“We were having a good conversation about players etc and how things were.”

January investment needed

West Ham United fans will have enjoyed hearing that the two Davids had been in constant conversation about players – with January investment desperately needed to help push the side up the Premier League table.

The Hammers are currently sitting far too close to the relegation zone for comfort, and some attacking bodies are needed to sharpen up their blunt forward line.

Having scored just 12 goals from 15 games, which is the fourth-worst record in the league, Moyes has been heavily criticised for his tactics this season, considering the quality he possesses.

The Scot hasn’t been able to get the best from marquee summer signing Gianluca Scamacca yet, while Lucas Paqueta has also flattered to deceive in east London.

Whether Moyes believes he can mastermind a turnaround in these players’ form or not, Sullivan may take the January window into his own hands and pump further investment into his star-studded squad.
