David Gold reacts to ‘astonishing’ West Ham takeover report
David Gold hash to back at a report that he is poised to sell West Ham to sports giants West Ham.
Popular Twitter account IndyKaila News, followed by over 300,000 people, claimed earlier in the week that the company, who own a number of clubs across Europe including, most notably, RB Leipzig, are keen on securing a “cut-price deal” for the Hammers.
The account cited a source close to Gold as its informant.
But the co-owner has moved quickly to quash the rumours.
Speaking to Claret & Hugh, he said: “It’s astonishing to see things such as this appearing and given my name is attached to it I have to put the record straight.
“I have absolutely no knowledge of anything like that at all. I have not heard of any interest from Red Bull. As far as my involvement is concerned this is not true. It is made up – a complete fabrication. There is no such interest.”
What can we make of this one?
As far as statements go, they don’t get much more decisive than this one from Gold.
He is having absolutely none of it when it comes to idle chat about his ownership, and it would seem to suggest that he is serious about what he’s said here.
Of course, there is always the question as to whether or not an owner is disclosing the whole truth when he makes such a public declaration, but the fact that Gold has move so quickly to deny the claim, rather than allowing it to sit and germinate should be a fairly clearly indication of just how keen he is to keep hold of the club for the time being.
