David Gold reacts as Rob Newman joins West Ham from Manchester City
David Gold has reacted after West Ham appointed Rob Newman as their Head of Recruitment following his departure from Manchester City.
The 57-year-old spent more than 12 years as an International Scouting and Recruitment Manager at the Etihad Stadium, and he has now joined the Hammers as part of a restructuring of their football recruitment department.
Gold is pleased with the behind-the-scenes recruitment, and has finally reacted to it on his personal Twitter account.
The West Ham co-owner said: “I would like to welcome Rob Newman to West Ham United. Rob joins us from Man City where he spent more than 12 years in scouting and recruitment.
“Wishing you all the best, Rob.”
Great addition
Such additions hardly impress the majority of the fans, but landing Newman could turn the Hammers into regular top-six challengers going forward given his wealth of experience in the job.
He played a major role in making Man City who they are today, managing their team of scouts scouring the world for the best talent available over the last decade.
While West Ham will not be able to match the spending powers of the Premier League defending champions anytime soon, they can expect to land some hidden gems available for bargain fees given Newman’s contacts book and influence among scouts.
West Ham’s last director of football Mario Husillos was a flop, and while Newman’s job has a different name, he will be performing a very similar role.
The Irons need to recruit quality players capable of improving their squad and making them millions when sold, and that has to be done within their budget.
They appear to have gotten the best man for the job, and fans can expect changes in the quality of their recruitment going forward.
In other West Ham news, the Hammers want to sign English sensation with 18 goals/assists in 20/21.
