Darwin Nunez could become new hero for West Ham as he eyes Premier League move
Darwin Nunez is eyeing a move to the Premier League in the summer, and the news should excite West Ham.
According to journalist Matteo Moretto, who has previously worked with Gianluca Di Marzio, Benfica would demand a fee of around £62m (75 Million Euros) for their talisman striker.
Wolves and Newcastle had shown an interest in him, while Manchester United and Chelsea are also vying for his signature [The Atheltic].
Matteo wrote on Twitter: “Darwin Núñez has the eyes of the Premier on him: in the past Wolves and Newcastle have made him an offer, but now the list of suitors has grown. In Spain, Atlético is attentive. Benfica asks for 75 million.”
West Ham made an attempt to sign him during the January window, and as per Portugal newspaper Record (12 April, page 03), the Hammers are still in the hunt to land the prolific striker.
Recently, Benfica boss Nelson Verissimo has made an honest admission where he suggested that the Portuguese club will have to accept the fact that Nunez could leave at the end of the season.
He said, as quoted by O Jogo (13 April, page 5): “It is the law of the market. There are several players in this squad who are coveted, the coaches and the president wanted to keep them all but we are in a competitive market where clubs need capital.
“Darwin has had a great evolution this season, he has an innate quality and if, at the end of the season, he has to leave in the interests of Benfica we have to accept that. In Portugal, we have to empower players and then there are stronger markets and leagues. That’s why there are players we can’t keep.”

The asking price set for him may seem too high but he is worth every penny. At 22, he has the potential to be a world-class striker.
Nunez is a goal machine and he has managed 32 goals in all competitions. If he can replicate that sort of numbers for West Ham, the club will find a new cult hero.
The Hammers need a clinical finisher like him, as they are crying for a striker who can lead the line. Surely, they can’t rely on Michail Antonio to be their only striker for another campaign.
Daniel Kretinsky is likely to provide his full support to David Moyes to bring his choice of players, and at that price, signing Nunez is a no brainer.
It means, the Hammers will have to break their transfer record, but that’s the base price to have to pay to sign premium quality players these days.
