Darren Gough showers praise on West Ham defender Angelo Ogbonna

Darren Gough has showered praise on West Ham defender Angelo Ogbonna on talkSPORT this week.

The 33-year-old central defender has picked up an anterior cruciate injury, and he is facing a lengthy spell on the sidelines.

Ogbonna has been brilliant this season for the Hammers, and his absence will be a major blow for the club.

The left-footed central defender picked up an injury in the first half during West Ham’s 3-2 win against Liverpool.

Gough has suggested that Ogbonna has been “outstanding” for the Hammers, but the Londoners can cope without him.

“He has been outstanding. He is a threat on both ends of the pitch. He has been a consistent pick for Moyes. But they’ve got some good, experienced replacements,” he said on talkSPORT.

Change in tactics?

Missing Ogbonna will be a big loss for the club.

He has been brilliant this season for the Hammers alongside Kurt Zouma. It won’t be easy for either Dawson or Issa Diop to come in straight away and fill the void.

Will we see a change in tactics? Can Moyes introduce a five-man defence? In all probability, he won’t. Moyes doesn’t need to change his formation as he has players who can perform the job for him.

However, the situation could change in January. Irrespective of where they will be by that time in the league table, signing a top player in defence could become a priority for them.
