Darren Bent drops ‘incredible’ Moyes admission in Lopetegui West Ham sack verdict

Darren Bent has questioned the appointment of Julen Lopetegui at West Ham United due to the similarities in his and David Moyes’ playstyles.

The Hammers still sit 14th in the Premier League but find themselves in a much more precarious situation now that Everton have beaten Wolves 4-0.

Speaking live on talkSPORT (4 December, 19:19pm), Bent shared his “incredible” verdict on the job Moyes did and why he felt it was an error bringing in Lopetegui.

“Julen Lopetegui reminds me of David Moyes in terms of style of play,” he said.

“David Moyes, what he did for West Ham was incredible he brought them their first trophy in I don’t know how long, a long time and they had some good, strong and stable finishes.

“When they came away from David Moyes I expected them to hire a manager that was forward-thinking, free-flowing, would get the best out of [Mohammed] Kudus and [Jarrod] Bowen and their football is quite similar.

“So if you’re a West Ham fan, you’re almost thinking ‘well what’s the upside to Lopetegui over David Moyes'”.

Julen Lopetegui will be lucky to keep his West Ham job for much longer

The future of Lopetegui has been under what feels like constant scrutiny since near to the start of the season.

The Hammers failed to have the start to the term they desired, and while their pre-season goals were to finish the season in the European places, at the moment, things couldn’t be any different.

While they’re not yet in the relegation zone, the fact that Everton have made some ground on them should cause alarm bells to start ringing.

Hammers fans are rightfully fed up with the recent performances of their team, and while all the blame can’t be placed upon the shoulders of the manager, he should be taking the brunt of it as he’s the one who tells his team how to line up and play their game.

Only time will tell if David Sullivan keeps the Spaniard in his role but if he does, West Ham may as well kiss any hopes they had for the term goodbye.
