Danny Murphy praises West Ham United fans live on talkSPORT after win v Bournemouth
Danny Murphy believes West Ham are starting to “make memories” at the London Stadium after his first experience at the stadium on Monday night.
The former Liverpool and Tottenham midfielder was part of the commentary team for the win over Bournemouth in what was his first trip to the stadium since West Ham become the home club there after leaving Upton Park.
And after being asked by Jim White while live on talkSPORT (26 October, 10:06) about his experience, Murphy admitted that the stadium was “rocking” and explained that he thinks the fans are starting to love it more and more.
“I had my first experience of West Ham on Monday night,” he said. “It was alright. It was rocking actually, the fans were good.
“It was a deserved win actually, the stadium was nearly full. It was a good experience. It was one of the few I hadn’t been to.
“I think they’re starting to make memories there. I think the level of the performance creates the atmosphere doesn’t it?
“With the team they’ve got, and the quality they’ve got now the atmosphere was really good. As long as they keep players of a decent level, there’s no problem with that.”
Getting there
Upton Park was a stadium that held so many memories for generations of fans, so it was always going to be hard to move on from there to a new stadium.
But as Murphy states, the team has now moved into the ground and the level of performance has grown with the new stadium to see fans finally starting to call it home.

The running track still isn’t ideal and creates a separation, but when the big games come around and the fans are bouncing it makes for a phenomenal atmosphere and an intimidating one for the opposition.
As time goes on it will feel more and more like home when more memories are made and more generations of fans become used to it, but for now there is still more to come.
The performance on Monday wasn’t great and most fans are aware of that, yet it was enough to leave an impression on Murphy, so if we can continue to make noise and build something West Ham will simply go from strength to strength.
