Danny Murphy heaps praise on ‘clever’ West Ham new signing Maxwel Cornet

Former England midfielder Danny Murphy has heaped praise on West Ham United’s newly-signed winger Maxwel Cornet.

The Hammers suffered a 2-0 defeat against Manchester City in the season opener at the London Stadium on Sunday afternoon with the Ivorian being forced to sit out.

Murphy, while talking on BBC Match of the Day 2, suggested that the 25-year-old will add value to the Irons’ squad.

“Cornet is going to be a decent signing,” he said.

“He is going to add some goals. He is a clever footballer, I think that is a good bit of business.”

Exciting time

West Ham had the worst possible start to their Premier League campaign where they were drawn up against the defending champions who were just too good to handle on Sunday at the London Stadium.

Despite the result, Cornet’s arrival will give the Hammers’ fans a lot to be excited about, especially after they missed out on the signing of former Manchester United winger Jesse Lingard who ended up joining Nottingham Forest instead.

The 25-year-old was one of the brightest spots for Burnley in the previous campaign where hey netted nine times and provided an assist in 26 matches in the Premier League [Transfermarkt].

Those numbers are even more impressive considering the fact that the Clarets suffered relegation and managed to score just 34 goals in 38 matches.

It will be interesting to see how David Moyes will use the player who joined the club in a deal worth £17.5 million [Sky Sports].
