Danny Murphy ‘angry’ after what Graham Potter said after Chelsea draw v West Ham United, Gary Lineker reacts

Danny Murphy says Graham Potter should be more “angry” with VAR as he feels Chelsea were denied a win against West Ham on Saturday (11 February) in the Premier League.

Speaking on BBC Match of the Day (11 February, 1.01.21), Murphy says that he is more “angry” than Potter who refused to blame VAR in the post-match conference, suggesting that it’s human error and hard to expect consistency every time.

The match ended in a 1-1 draw where Tomas Soucek appear to have touched the ball into the penalty box in the dying minutes of the game.

Gary Lineker teased Murphy by saying that he is an angry individual. Murphy accepted what Lineker said but feels that Potter should have voiced his frustration over the contentious decision.

“I wish he was more angry. I feel that I am more angry than him,” said Murphy on Match of the Day.

“You’re an angry individual,” said Lineker.

“Yes, I am. You’re right. But he was deprived of a win when he desperately needed,” responded Murphy.

Hard earned

The performance level has improved since January as West Ham have now picked up two draws against Newcastle and Chelsea.

However, it is still nowhere good enough. In the first 20 minutes, they were completely outplayed by the visitors, and the defence has been very poor.

The Blues took the lead through Joao Felix and at that point, the Hammers were struggling to stay solid at the back.

However, they looked more in control after they equalized through Emerson. The Hammers need to stop conceding early.

The stats reflect that West Ham are goal shy at the moment, and in such a scenario, conceding early puts the team under a lot of pressure.

The goal, however, was beautifully worked out. Jarrod Bowen placed the ball nicely with a glancing header in the path of unmarked Emerson who scored from close range.

The Hammers will have to keep their focus and prepare for another high-intensity game as they face Tottenham in their next Premier League away from home.
