Danny Ings leaves Aston Villa training ground for final time ahead of West Ham United medical

Danny Ings has left Aston Villa training ground on Thursday morning (19 January) as he is heading for medical at West Ham, as reported by journalist Mike McGrath.

The Telegraph journalist shared on Twitter that Ings has rejected two clubs to join the Hammers who have reached an agreement worth £12m plus add-ons with Villa.

Despite the fact that Ings has dropped the pecking order under Unai Emery, he leaves Villa as the club’s leading scorer this season.

“Following on from our story last night. Danny Ings leaving Aston Villa training ground for the last time this morning and heading to West Ham for medical early afternoon ahead of £12m plus add-ons move. Rejected two other Premier League clubs. He leaves as Villa’s leading goalscorer this season,” wrote McGrath on Twitter.

Fantastic signing

As it stands, Ings will become the first signing of West Ham in the January window.

It comes as a surprise really, as many had thought that David Moyes will sign a centre-back first, with Craig Dawson likely to leave.

The Hammers are struggling for goals at the moment, and Ings can solve that. He is a proven goalscorer and should fit seamlessly at the London stadium.

West Ham

ExWHUemployee reported on Wednesday (18 January) that Gianluca Scamacca could be absent for a while after he picked up a knee injury, and Ings could be a readymade replacement.

It remains to be seen what the future holds for Michail Antonio now. The 32-year-old striker hasn’t been at his best this season, and Sky Sports [transfer live blog, 19 January, 11:26am] report that the player could be sold this month.

He has been a long-term servant for the club, and carried the burden of scoring for almost two seasons all by himself when the Hammers failed to sign a striker in three consecutive transfer windows.
