Czechia media reacts to what West Ham United man Vladimir Coufal did v Albania – ‘fell asleep’

West Ham United ace Vladimir Coufal impressed Czechia media with his performance against Albania on Saturday despite one moment when he “fell asleep”.

The right-back stayed on the pitch for the full 90 minutes and was even given some abuse from the Albanian fans as objects were thrown at him when he was taking a corner.

Coufal has lost his starting spot for the Hammers since Aaron Wan-Bissaka was brought in and his recent performance for his country won’t have helped matters much.

Czechia outlet iSport rated the defender a 6/10 and shared their thoughts on his performance via their website (17 November).

“He decently cooperated with Černý, opening space for him with his movements,” they wrote.

“Corners went into the right areas, with one he was hit in the arm by an object thrown by the home fans. He fell asleep backwards only once”.

Vladimir Coufal might not have much of a future left at West Ham United

This season has undoubtedly been a difficult one for Coufal to take on.

Since the summer window ended, the Hammers have been linked with making a move for a couple of defenders such as Tariq Lamptey (Caught Offside, 12 November) and Southampton ace, Kyle Walker-Peters.

Lopetegui already has two solid right-back options in Coufal and Wan-Bissaka but as the seasons go on, it’s likely that Coufal will slowly start to get further and further off the pace.

And, although Wan-Bissaka is a strong right-back defensively, his ability to attack leaves a lot to be desired.

The former Manchester United man has been one of West Ham’s best players this term and although it’s unlikely that he’d get pipped to his starting spot by one of the aforementioned duo, it would certainly offer the Hammers another way to set up against the more defensive sides.

This would then allow them to capitalise on their defensive nature and perhaps get the better of their opponents.

In other West Ham news, Ruud van Nistelrooy has been backed to go for the Hammers’ managerial hot seat if Julen Lopetegui is sacked.
