Cundy and O’Hara aghast at what West Ham United fan said about Bowen
Jason Cundy and Jamie O’Hara were left aghast by a West Ham United fan after he said Jarrod Bowen should start for England over Bukayo Saka.
The Hammers winger has found himself in decent form once again this season, racking up five goal contributions in just nine games thus far.
However, this form has evidently not won interim England manager Lee Carsley over as he left the attacker out of his England squad for their upcoming Nations League games with Greece and Finland.
Bowen’s absence caused a West Ham fan to call the talkSPORT Sports Bar [9 October] and share his verdict on the attacker.
“There’s no way that Bowen is the most prolific player on the right [for England], he’s not mate, Saka is,” Cundy said to the fan.
“Saka is one of the most important players that England have got. Come on boys, come on, get into the real world,” the fan replied.
O’Hara then brought up the fact that Bowen has had 12 England appearances in his career and hasn’t scored once which made the fan question how many minutes he’d be given on the pitch.
This then sparked a reaction from Cundy who said: “Wayne, come on mate.”
Jarrod Bowen needs to prove his worth to England at West Ham United
Bowen has been one of the shining lights within the Hammers’ squad this season and has been one of the few standout performers since Julen Lopetegui assumed control.
So, it surprised many that the right-winger was left out of Carsley’s squad for their Nations League games.
Although England are fairly stacked on the right-hand side of the pitch, it still feels as if the 27-year-old should have at least been given a spot in the squad.
Obviously, there are still more opportunities later in the season for Bowen to prove his worth and perhaps get called up to the England squad.

But, for that to happen, the attacker needs to continue his good run of form for Lopetegui and show that he can stake his claim for the 2026 World Cup.
As West Ham finally managed to get their first Premier League home win of the season against Ipswich with a 4-1 victory on 5 October, things might start to look up for both Bowen and the Hammers sooner than many think.
