Crysencio Summerville wows in West Ham United v Everton after what was said
Adrian Clarke was impressed by Crysencio Summerville after his defensive work as West Ham United drew against Everton on Saturday.
The London Stadium hosted Everton on 9 November in the Premier League, with a game lacking any real quality finishing 0-0.
One moment stood out though, with Summerville running half the length of the pitch to block a shot from Abdoulaye Doucoure as he looked set to score.
Speaking on The Athletic’s Totally Football Show [11 November], Clarke shared that people he spoke with branded the fixture a stinker.
“I’ve heard from people that went to this game, they said it was an absolute stinker,” he said.
“What I will say though, one of the best pieces of tracking back of the season so far by Crysencio Summerville. Probably criminally underused by Lopetegui.
“He ran back, Summerville. About 60 to 70 yards full pelt to block a Doucoure shot. It was sensational work-rate from a player that really only wants to do his bits on the ball.”
Crysencio Summerville deserves more opportunities at West Ham
Summerville was signed by the Hammers this summer from Leeds after impressing at Elland Road.
The Irons made several additions to their team in the previous transfer window, but the 23-year-old has been the only one who has stood out.
Julen Lopetegui’s arrival has seen a downturn in performances at the London Stadium, with the club fourteenth in the Premier League table.
While the Spaniard has been criticised for a lot of things, his decision not to give Summerville consistent minutes is a bit baffling.

The Dutchman has been involved in 12 fixtures for West Ham in all competitions in the current campaign, but he has started in just five.
With Mohammed Kudus suspended after his altercation in the 4-1 loss to Tottenham on 19 October, Lopetegui is finally counting on the 23-year-old summer signing, and he has repaid that faith.
Summerville has been a bright spark of what has been a rather bleak few months for the Hammers, and the London Stadium faithful will want to see more of him going forward.
