Craig Dawson’s West Ham United fee makes him ‘one of the Premier League greats’ – Steve Sidwell
BBC pundit Steve Sidwell believes that Craig Dawson is among the Premier League’s best due to the transfer fee paid by West Ham.
Dawson first signed for the Hammers on loan from Watford in 2020, but soon after made his move permanent after impressing in east London.
The 32-year-old quickly became a fan favourite at the London Stadium, and remains a crucial part of David Moyes’ side even after a summer of heavy investment.

Dawson started for West Ham during their Premier League clash against Fulham, and BBC pundit Sidwell piled the praise on the English centre-back.
Speaking on BBC 5 Live (9 October, 2:25pm) Sidwell said: “He’s so impressive, Dawson.
“In terms of value for money, I think he’s up there as one of the Premier League greats because of what he gives to this West Ham team – I mean he’s forever present.
“Not only is he sound defensively, I think the defending in his own box in terms of set pieces, but also attacking set pieces as well.
“It just shows his class is there to see.”
Crucial
Dawson may be viewed as an old-fashioned, burly centre-back, but the 32-year-old still remains the best defender at the club.
His physicality, experience and composure are all huge assets to West Ham, and he instils confidence in the entire defensive line when he plays.

Thilo Kehrer and Nayef Aguerd both arrived in the summer to bolster the defensive department at the London Stadium, but it didn’t take long for Moyes to revert back to Dawson.
As said by Sidwell, Dawson is not only a great defender but also a superb goal threat. He’s scored five goals during his time with West Ham and suits Moyes’ physical approach to a tee.
With Aguerd sidelined through injury and Kehrer preferring a right-back spot in recent matches, Dawson is likely going to return to being a first-choice centre-back this season.
Being hailed as a Premier League great might be slightly hyperbolic by Sidwell, but Dawson has definitely been an absolute bargain for Moyes.
