Corinthians receive West Ham proposal for Yuri Alberto, decision to be made in ‘hours’

West Ham have put forward their proposal for Corinthians striker Yuri Alberto, according to Brazillian journalist Benjamin Back.

The media personality, who has a show on CNN Brazil and over 1.2million followers on Twitter, provided an update (28 August), revealing that Corinthians have received the proposal for their 22-year-old striker from the East London club.

A board meeting will now take place in “the next few hours” to discuss whether or not they will allow him to depart for West Ham.

However, Back has suggested that they could yet wait until after their game against Estudiantes on Wednesday (29 August) to make any final decision.

Risky

If the offer is accepted, and David Moyes’ side do end up bringing Alberto to the London Stadium, it could prove to be a very risky signing. Players from South America can be very hit-and-miss when it comes to making the transition to some of Europe’s top leagues, and with Alberto so young, there is no guarantee he will be a success.

However, any transfer is a risk and even some of the most established European stars can struggle when making the move to another club. Therefore, considering they have already made an offer, West Ham have clearly seen enough in Alberto to feel that he is a gamble worth taking.

West Ham

He is a prolific goalscorer in Brazil and has the advantage of already having some European experience under his belt, having previously played with Russian side Zenit St. Petersburg, albeit briefly. Alberto scored six times and provided four assists in just 15 matches for Zenit, suggesting that he could perhaps make the transition away from South America.
