Conor Coventry set to leave West Ham United as Sheffield Wednesday transfer update emerges
Sheffield Wednesday have been given permission to enter talks with West Ham youngster Conor Coventry, according to The Star.
The newspaper reported via its website [7 January] that the Owls have been permitted to open talks with the 23-year-old over a potential move to Hillsborough, with Charlton Athletic also targeting the Hammers midfielder.
It is understood that Wednesday will hope to convince the West Ham prospect that they are the right club for the next step in his career. But it remains to be seen whether a permanent or loan deal will be agreed to.

While Wednesday were not believed to be leading the race for the Republic of Ireland youth international’s signature, the Championship strugglers have taken a step towards making the transfer happen this January.
Hammer blow for the youngster
It could be time for Coventry to leave London Stadium permanently, having experienced a handful of loan spells at Lincoln City, Peterborough United, MK Dons and, most recently, Rotherham United.
However, the promising youngster has made just 10 appearances for West Ham’s senior team since graduating from the club’s academy and has failed to stamp his mark on the Hammers squad.

At 23 years old, there is little hope left that David Moyes will take the plunge with Coventry. While another loan deal, this time with a team sitting in the Championship relegation zone, could be vital for the player’s development, it would have been hoped that he would be ready for the West Ham squad by now.
The FA Cup offered Moyes the perfect opportunity to gage Coventry’s ability, drawing 1-1 with Bristol City in the Third Round. Still, the midfielder was not given the chance and kept his spot on the bench warm instead.
It might be time for West Ham and Coventry to part ways.
