Confirmed: West Ham mainstay ruled out for two weeks, could miss three games
West Ham United have confirmed that goalkeeper Lukasz Fabianski will miss up to two weeks of action.
The Polish international was forced off the field in the 1-0 defeat against Sheffield United last time out with a possible recurrence of the hip injury that had forced him out for months earlier in the season.
Immediate fears were that it could be a similar lay-off for the experienced stopper – leading the Irons to start looking at back-up goalkeepers in the January window.
That isn’t the news that David Moyes will have been hoping for in East London, but it is certainly the best possible news given that the earlier injury kept him out for much longer.
West Ham will now be forced to use either David Martin or Roberto – both having made a catalogue of errors this season.
Despite his mistake in the defeat against the Blades, Martin will be viewed as the best of a bad bunch – given the nightmare few months, Roberto suffered.
Fabianski will most likely miss games against Everton, Leicester City, and West Brom in the FA Cup. He could return for the clash with Liverpool at the end of January – which would be a massive boost.
That hasn’t stopped the Hammers searching for a new option though, with the club having a £7million offer for Cardiff City stopper Neil Ethridge rejected recently [Claret and Hugh].
