Confirmed: West Ham starlet completes Wednesday loan exit
West Ham fans have been crying out for Nathan Holland to be given regular first team football for ages now.
The wide man has impressed for a while now in the U23s, hitting 14 goals and eight assists so far this campaign, as per the club themselves.
With numbers like that, and at the age of 21, the next natural step for him is senior football.
And despite picking up a Premier League debut towards the end of Manuel Pellegrini’s time at the club, it has been decided that the best way for him to get the game time he needs is by going out on loan.
West Ham confirmed on Wednesday that the winger has completed a deal to join League One high-flyers Oxford United until the end of the season.
United are currently fourth in the third tier, five points off the top of the table with a game in hand on leaders Wycombe Wanderers.
And the West Ham Zone View of this is that it feels like an ideal move for Holland.
The starlet has shedloads of talent, that’s never been in question, with U23 Dmitri Halajko even going as far as to claim that he is the best winger in the Premier League 2, as per the Hammers’ official site.
With that in mind, and especially considering the fact that he is over 20, he absolutely has to be playing regular first team football, or the Irons risk seriously hampering his development.
Playing in the third tier should give him the opportunity to properly find his feet in the senior game without becoming disheartened, while Oxford’s promotion push means that he will instantly be transplanted into a side that have their eyes set on glory.
Instilling a winning mentality will never be a bad thing, and hopefully he can come back to east London with some kind of medal around his neck.
Until then, let’s just hope he’s given the chance he’s deserved for so long.
