Competition for places will help West Ham United – Pablo Fornals

Pablo Fornals believes competition for places will help West Ham United this season.

The Hammers had a slow start to the 2022/23 season but they managed to secure a much-needed 2-0 win against Wolves on Saturday, 1 October, in front of their home crowd.

Fornals was quoted by the club’s official website where he stated the impact of new signings, who according to him, will push the already existing players at the club to perform even better this season.

“I think competition is going to improve everyone,” he said. “We made some really good signings in the summer.

“They have given different points and different styles to the team. And people who have been here for more time have to show everyone they deserve to start now.

“So obviously, we are always in a positive mood because we are a team, and we 100% agree that this is going to help us.”

Important player

West Ham were extremely active in the summer transfer window where they ended up signing eight first-team players.

Interestingly, only two of them were players who could play in the middle of the park and one of those — Lucas Paqueta — was a player to have attributes of playing in attacking positions.

West Ham

It was clear that David Moyes was not in search of too many players who could be used in an attacking midfielder’s role, largely because he was pretty satisfied with the performance of Fornals in the previous campaign where he scored six goals and provided four assists in 36 appearances in the league competition [Transfermarkt].

However, the 26-year-old’s start to the 2022/23 campaign has been rather slow where he has only managed to score one goal and provide an assist for another in 761 minutes of first-team football.

Therefore, despite the arrival of the Brazil international Paqueta, who himself is finding it hard to adjust to life in the Premier League, the fans will be hoping to see Fornals return to his very best and start contributing to the team’s cause.
