‘Credit to himself’ – BBC pundit blown away by form of ‘excellent’ West Ham mainstay
Clinton Morrison has showered West Ham United forward Michail Antonio for his performances after the enforced break the Premier League.
The BBC pundit claimed that he never saw Antonio as a central striker, but has been blown away by the effect he has had for the Irons in the final third.
Antonio has scored eight goals in the eight games after the lockdown, with four of those coming in one game in the 4-0 victory against Norwich City.
Morrison, who was teammates with Antonio at Sheffield Wednesday, was clearly impressed with the transformation he has seen.
“Credit to himself, Michail Antonio,” he told BBC Radio 5 Live.
“He’s worked ever so hard and I do believe now, he’ll turn out to be a very good centre-forward, because you don’t want to play against pace and power and that’s what he’s got.
“Against Chelsea, Chelsea’s defenders could not handle him and then I watched the game where he scored the four goals against Norwich, proper centre-forward goals – all in and around the six-yard box.
“Credit to Antonio, he’s been excellent.”
Antonio has been superb this season. The winger-turned-striker has had to step up with Albian Ajeti not making any impact, and Sebastien Haller has been struggling with injuries.
The 30-year-old finally reached 10 goals for the season against Manchester United, and the Sun reported that he was rewarded with a £250,000 bonus – not too bad.
The Irons forward has the highest average WhoScored rating in the entire West Ham squad, and his improvement in the final third is one of the main reasons behind that.
