Claret and Hugh: West Ham United eyeing up Serie A transfer double

According to Claret and Hugh, West Ham will return to Serie A to sign two more players in the summer window.

West Ham invested heavily in the summer and while it took time for David Moyes’ new signing to settle in, they’re now shining in claret and blue.

Gianluca Scamacca has been a superb addition to the Hammers since joining from Sassuolo, with the 23-year-old Italian winning every game he’s started so far.

Following the club’s success with Scamacca’s transfer, Claret and Hugh report that the club is set to return to Serie A for two further signings next summer.

They report that there is interest in signing another central midfielder, while there could also be a desire to sign a new defender.

Recruitment chief Rob Newman is central to those plans, with the former Manchester City employee feeding targets directly to Moyes.

More of the same

Scamacca has been a standout performer this season, and Hammers fans are now begging to see him in the starting lineup each week.

His £35.5million transfer fee [Sky Sports] is quickly becoming justified by his performances and goals, so it’s no surprise that West Ham are sniffing around for other talent in Italy.

The club’s scouting system has worked superbly over the summer, and Moyes seems to have a good say in who comes through the doors at the London stadium. If another gem is found in Serie A, then it’s promising to hear that the club are ready to move quickly to bring them in.

It’s also good to see the club targeting both a midfielder and a defender. Thilo Kehrer is swiftly becoming more of a right-back than a centre-back, so Moyes could look to bring in some added depth in that position.

As for midfield, there still remains a lot of pressure on the shoulders of Decland Rice and Tomas Soucek. The duo have played almost every game together for two seasons on the trot, and depth is needed in order to keep them fresh.
