Claret and Hugh share latest on Danny Ings future at West Ham United amid potential push for new striker transfer
West Ham United striker Danny Ings is unlikely to leave the London Stadium in the January transfer window, according to Claret & Hugh.
The reliable Hammers journalists (19 October) were discussing the club’s plans in the winter market and whether a move for a striker may be possible but it’s believed the Irons may be restricted to loan deals after their summer business.
The lack of quality options available in the January transfer window means David Moyes would be reluctant to allow Ings to leave despite his struggles since his £15m move from Southampton last January.

Can he step up?
It is indeed unlikely that we’ll see Danny Ings leave the club in the January window given Moyes’ depleted options in the role and the difficulty in bringing in an immediate first-team regular in that period.
The Hammers also have youth prodigy Divin Mubama alongside regular starter Michail Antonio but whether those three options are enough for West Ham United to challenge on all fronts this season remains to be seen.

Ings has proven a huge disappointment since his January 2023 move, and at such a hefty £15m price for a player who was in the last stretch of his contract at St Mary’s, the Irons fans will feel he’s been a real waste of money.
His fortunes haven’t improved much this season, as he’s only played 33 minutes [Transfermarkt] in West Ham’s opening eight league games and just 200 minutes all season so far, which certainly shows what Moyes thinks of him in comparison to Antonio.
The question remains can Ings bring grand improvement if he does get the opportunities in the coming weeks? That is incredibly uncertain right now.
However, the Jamaican international hasn’t done much to quell the Hammers’ desperate thirst for a regular goalscorer and the fact that Moyes will have to be forced to make do with what he’s got right now, seems rather disappointing.
In other West Ham news, Fabrizio Romano has provided an update on the Hammers’ interest in Harry Maguire.
