Claret and Hugh share fee West Ham expect for wantaway defender Thilo Kehrer

West Ham will want a minimum of £10million to allow Thilo Kehrer to depart in January, according to Claret and Hugh.

The Germany centre-back is one of several players being tipped to depart the London Stadium in the winter transfer window after struggling for game time since arriving from Paris Saint-Germain in August 2022.

However, the club will only sell if they recoup what they paid for him, according to the Claret and Hugh report (26 December).

They wrote: “A backroom source made it clear to Claret and Hugh that the player had been a disappointment and that as a result he would be allowed to leave.

“However, with over two years left on his deal the club will be looking for a minimum of the £10 million they paid for him.”

Fair’s fair

The writing seems to be on the wall with this one. Kehrer has been a flop at West Ham in all honesty, and he cannot get in the team so the best solution for all is to sell and let him get playing regular football elsewhere.

But just because the player wants the move to happen, that doesn’t mean the Hammers should be looking to do any club – in England or abroad – any charitable favours when it comes to a sale.

At the time, the £10.1m fee plus add-ons (Sky Sports) West Ham reportedly paid for him looked a snip and, although it hasn’t work out that way, Kehrer is a player with international experience with Germany and played at the top level with PSG.

So, it stands to reason that West Ham will not want to make a loss of a player who is still only 27 years old and has plenty left in the tank. If any club wants to sign him they will have to meet their price tag that’s for sure.

In other West Ham news, one journalist says the club have a very good chance at signing a Chelsea player in January.
