Chris Sutton tears into ‘dirty’ West Ham United amid ‘disrespectful’ David Moyes developments

Chris Sutton has torn into West Ham United, labelling them “dirty” for beginning the search for a new manager behind David Moyes’ back.

Reports suggest it is becoming increasingly likely that the Scotsman will leave the London Stadium at the end of his season and his current contract, with talks already beginning with potential successors including Ruben Amorim.

However, the Hammers are still yet to make an official announcement surrounding the 61-year-old’s position and Sutton has been quick to criticise those in charge for their “disrespectful” approach.

Speaking on It’s All Kicking Off! (25 April, 12:50) he said: “I can’t think of many managers who have had such a stellar management career who have been disrespected as much as David Moyes and this is just another case of it.

“I understand that clubs look ahead and they have to plan but with the very public nature of this, surely it would have been better for West Ham to come out and say David Moyes is going to leave at the end of the season, thank him for the job that he has done and praise him.

“But once again this seems really sort of dirty and underhand these stories which have come out and I think disrespectful is the right word to use over this. I really feel for David Moyes.

“I’ll say it again and I really don’t care what West Ham fans think, it’s about where their club is going to be on a year on for now and a new manager taking over means there will be a player exodus and they just need to be careful West Ham.

“The talk about getting to that next level, that’s not that easy and Moyes has done a brilliant job. They’ll probably ask him back next year.”

Will West Ham United sack David Moyes amid Chris Sutton exit verdict?

It has to be considered that Moyes may well have been privy to the fact that the Hammers were beginning negotiations behind the scenes and for all supporters know, the Scotsman could have come to terms with his exit.

His attitude following the Irons’ Europa League exit to Bayer Leverkusen didn’t come across as that of a manager whose future was decided as a number of fans and journalists suggested it was clear he wanted to stay.

But a week is a long time in football and plenty could have already changed behind the scenes. It seems unlikely the Hammers would begin speaking to other managers without Moyes knowing about it.

Hopefully, some clarity will emerge around the Scotsman’s position in the coming days or weeks as it seems almost impossible to begin preparing for next season when you don’t even know who will be in charge.
