Chris Sutton predicts West Ham will not get top four after Tottenham defeat

Chris Sutton believes West Ham have no chance of finishing amongst the Premier League’s top four following their defeat to Spurs this afternoon [March 20].

The Hammers fell to a 3-1 defeat at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium thanks to an own goal from Kurt Zouma and a brace from Son Heung-min that counteracted Said Benrahma’s first half strike.

Sutton looked at the Irons lack of recruitment in January as the reason David Moyes’ side might miss out on a Champions League spot.

He said on the BBC Radio five live football phone in [March 20, 6:35]: “West Ham needed to strengthen in January, they didn’t, and they will not get that fourth spot now.”

Glaringly obvious

Every single West Ham fan knows this. There was outrage throughout the fan base when the January window ended without any new additions to the squad.

The club left it far too late to make their moves which shows a clear lack of planning and their last-gasp efforts to bring in some players was truly embarrassing.

It is something Moyes and the players have navigated their way around really well though. The Irons were in desperate need of at least one centre-back in January as well as a striker with Michail Antonio being the only senior striker at the club.

With that being said, the Hammers find themselves amid one of the most successful seasons in the club’s recent history. Just imagine what they could have done if the squad had been invested in properly.

Despite their success, it is an issue that needs resolving. The Irons face a huge summer window in order to maintain the levels shown this season.
