Chris Sutton slams David Moyes as ‘ugly’ West Ham United footage emerges in loss v Frankfurt
Chris Sutton has slammed David Moyes after the West Ham manager lost his head and got sent off in the defeat to Frankfurt.
As the Irons were knocked out of the Europa League on Thursday night [5 May], Moyes was sent to the stands by the referee after he booted the ball back in the direction of a ball boy.
It was an angry reaction by the Scot and Sutton feels that was down to the frustration of losing in Frankfurt and having Aaron Cresswell sent off early on.
Speaking on BT Sport’s Europa League Highlights show on Thursday night [5 May] Sutton said: “They can be proud of the way they’ve performed in this competition but massive disappointment and that’s his frustration coming out there.
“He’s apologised and he’ll be embarrassed by that I think.
“What was he thinking? He was quite rightly sent off. Nowhere to go and it turned a little bit ugly.
“It’s a big opportunity for West Ham and this opportunity has passed them by and that’s all coming out there with David Moyes’ reaction.”

Moment of madness
Moyes saw the red mist descend in Germany.
It was a tough night for the Irons and you can totally understand why the manager would be so angry with what happened.
West Ham should’ve won.
And that’s not being disrespectful towards Frankfurt or being arrogant but a team that’s been challenging at the top-end of the Premier League all season should be able to beat a mid-table Bundesliga club.
Frankfurt are a very good outfit, we’re not denying that. But that was West Ham’s chance and the players simply didn’t take it.
Injuries have played a role and for that issue, we have to look at the woeful January transfer window when nobody was signed.
As a result of all this, we can see Declan Rice going and there may be some others who move on too.
We also won’t be able to sign as good players this summer as we would have done if we’d made the Champions League.
All of that frustration bubbled over for Moyes.
Luckily he didn’t hurt anyone and it’s good that he’s said sorry.
In other West Ham news, the winner has been named in West Ham’s race to seal a major centre-forward signing in the summer.
