Chris Sutton makes David Moyes sack claim ahead of West Ham United v Brentford

Chris Sutton has hit out at claims David Moyes could be facing the sack at West Ham, claiming the boss has done a brilliant job at the London Stadium regardless of a dip in form.

The former Chelsea striker was critical of the calls for Moyes’ head, suggesting that these rumours come around every time the Hammers lose a couple of games.

He went on to predict the clash between West Ham and Brentford, saying he was tempted to go for a draw but decided Brentford would continue their good form after beating Chelsea last week with a 2-0 win.

West Ham

Writing in his BBC Sport Premier League predictions, Sutton shared his view: “Whenever West Ham lose a couple of games, you hear the usual rumblings from the same old people, asking if manager David Moyes should still be in the job.

“It drives me potty. Moyes has done brilliantly and a spell of poor form doesn’t change that. Brentford went through a bit of a sticky patch themselves recently, with four defeats in seven games, but they are flying at the moment.

“The Bees got a big win against Chelsea last week and, as I’ve said before, they are so well-balanced and well-organised. I was tempted to go for another draw here, but I am actually going to go for Brentford to edge it.

“They beat the Hammers 2-0 home and away in the league last year, so I have picked the same scoreline again.”

Questions about Moyes are reasonable

There is no doubt that some of the frustrations West Ham fans held about Moyes’ position this season are valid. The style of play, use of the players, and blind loyalty to other players have caused a split in the fanbase, but all of those frustrations make sense.

Whether they outweigh the positives and would be enough to make such a huge call on his sacking is another question, and the dip in form has no doubt exaggerated those calls, but a return to form with a 3-1 dismantling of Arsenal on 1 November will have helped.

West Ham

The Hammers can continue their resurgence against Brentford on Saturday 4 November, but Sutton’s call for Brentford to emerge as victors may well be accurate.

Their own strong run of form could make the difference, and their home form will play a part. The Bees will be flying high as a result of a great result at Stamford Bridge and could now take that confidence with them in this one.

In other West Ham news, they have already moved to secure a new midfield transfer.
