Chris Sutton fires fresh jibe at West Ham fans in new David Moyes sack verdict

West Ham United supporters need to “get on with it” and stop calling for David Moyes to be sacked despite the Hammers’ poor recent form, according to Chris Sutton.

The Irons are without a win in their last six matches in all competitions and crashed out of the FA Cup, but currently still sit seventh in the Premier League table and have booked their place in the Europa League knockout stages.

Several West Ham fans have voiced their frustration with Moyes’ defensive style of football and while Sutton understands supporters’ frustration, he believes the Scotsman has overachieved at the London Stadium and shouldn’t be sacked.

Speaking on the It’s All Kicking Off podcast (8 February, 31:20) he said: “There seems to be a split in the fanbase more about the brand of football than anything else. They’re not happy about playing counter-attacking football but David Moyes has said, ‘These are the players that I’ve got’.

“He’s been successful, this feels like a never-ending story this West Ham story. It just goes round and round and it’s not going to change. He’s overachieved, we know that, but if they did want to change him at the end of the season, which I don’t think they do, his shoes are enormous to fill.

“I just think they have to get on with it, he’s been a success.”

David Moyes doesn’t deserve West Ham sack at London Stadium

The recent run of form at West Ham has put a spanner in the works. Over the festive period, Moyes had managed to get almost everybody back onside with impressive displays and wins over Arsenal and Tottenham, but that credit has quickly faded.

While there have been some extenuating circumstances such as the African Cup of Nations and the recent injury record, the football at the London Stadium has been dreary and dull and fans are entitled to voice their opinions.

Moyes has insisted that contract talks are underway and the Scotsman has even suggested that such discussions will now speed up after the January transfer window, however, no real update has emerged.

West Ham have to take their time and decide what will be the best move for the future of the football club. While Moyes’ boots will be tough to fill, it may be best for all parties if he leaves come the end of the season and his contract.
