Chris Sutton expects West Ham to deal with Watford new game plan

Chris Sutton expects Watford to play on the counter-attack when they face off against West Ham but believes David Moyes will be able to deal with it.

The Hammers take on Roy Hodgson’s Hornets in a Premier League encounter fresh off their extra-time win over sixth-tier Kidderminster in the FA Cup.

Watford claimed their first clean sheet of the season against Burnley at the weekend and Sutton told the Daily Mail that he believes they will set up in a similar way, but thinks David Moyes will be able to formulate his own plan and come away with a win.

West Ham

“Watford will go to West Ham with a plan to defend and try to nick a goal on the counter-attack. But David Moyes is a very good manager. He will have his own plan and I think West Ham will edge this.”

The Irons are currently battling for fourth place, while Watford are in 18th in a relegation scrap with just one point between themselves and safety currently.

Experience

This is a new experience for West Ham because they’re now looked at as one of the best teams in the division and so opposition teams set up to stop them.

It’s new ground for a lot of these players, who are more used to having space to run into than coming up against a low block.

It’s the job of Moyes and the coaching staff to come up with a plan to get results on track and performances back to a high level if they really want to finish in the top four.

That starts with games like these, where they will be expected to take all three points in a relatively convincing fashion.

Fans believe Moyes is the man, the players are behind him and Sutton thinks he can do it too, so now it’s just down to him to deliver.
