Chris Sutton argues at West Ham United fan as he’s left stunned by Tottenham claim on live radio
Chris Sutton was left stunned after a West Ham supporter claimed the club has a better squad than their bitter London rivals Tottenham, live on BBC Radio 5 Live.
Sutton was in conversation with Hammers supporter Harry Morris on the Monday Night Club (12 February) discussing the fallout of the Hammers’ 6-0 thrashing at the hands of Arsenal at the London Stadium on Sunday 11 February.
During the conversation Morris made a bold claim, saying (via BBC 5 Live on X, 13 February), “The results don’t matter for West Ham fans. It is about the football, that is the West Ham way.”
When asked by Sutton who Morris thinks West Ham should replace in the top six, he responded, “I think personally, Chris, I think we have got a better squad than Aston Villa, I think we have got a better squad than Tottenham.
“Personally, I think we should be finishing above these teams.”
West Ham face a dilemma
Whether or not the Hammers have better players than both Spurs and Villa is up for debate, but what isn’t up for debate is the unacceptable manner of the defeat against Arsenal, which had supporters piling out of the stadium at half-time.
It was an embarrassing day which will be remembered for a long time for all the wrong reasons, and it is understandable why supporters perhaps feel as if it is time for change.
However, as Sutton pointed out, after everything Moyes has achieved with the club, the Scot has more than earned the right to respond to the defeat and turn things around in East London.
A 6-0 defeat, the club’s biggest home defeat in 61 years, will of course pile the pressure on Moyes and it is up to the 60-year-old to now handle that pressure and come back fighting.
Regardless of whether or not they are better than Spurs or Villa, the club do have some very good players and those players must show a response when they travel to Nottingham Forest on Saturday 17 February.
In other West Ham news, Rio Ferdinand has weighed in on the debate over Moyes’ future at the club.
