Chris Sutton: Andriy Yarmolenko has been Ukraine’s best player

West Ham attacker Andriy Yarmolenko has impressed Chris Sutton with his performances at Euro 2020.

After having a horrid year with injuries domestically, the Ukraine international failed to shine for the Irons.

However, on the international stage, he is one of his team’s major goal-scoring threats and appears to be thriving in that role.

In his column for The Daily Mail, Sutton gave Yarmolenko an 8/10 rating for his performances thus far in the EUROs.

He wrote, “Ukraine’s best player and biggest threat at the Euros, despite hardly featuring for West Ham last season, starting only one league game.”

Enjoying a redemption

People have been quick to write off Yarmolenko and while they may have a point about him at club level, internationally, he’s a different animal.

Starting in an inside right position for Andriy Shevchenko’s side, the attacker has the license to cut in, stay wide, drop deep to collect the ball – basically given the liberty to do whatever he wants in possession.

He’s also got a deadly left foot on him and scored one of the goals of the tournament thus far – a stunning long ranger against the Netherlands.

The 31-year-old has bailed his country out time and again over the last few years and is enjoying a redemption at the EUROs thus far.

While it may be too late to convince David Moyes to change his mind, a tournament like he’s having could lead to his value skyrocketing and the interest in his services increasing.

If West Ham put him in the shop window, which they probably will, they could expect a decent fee for his services.

He looked done and dusted come the end of the season and his redemption will be beneficial for club, country and more importantly, himself.
