Chelsea transfer news as Mohammed Kudus hijack on cards at West Ham United

West Ham United could face a potential threat of a Chelsea hijack on Ajax midfielder Mohammed Kudus after their failed pursuit of Michael Olise, according to Ryan Taylor.

The Daily Express journalist, taking to his personal Twitter account (17 August), the Hammers are pressing ahead to strike an agreement for the Ghanaian international but Chelsea’s interest has intensified after Michael Olise penned a new deal at Crystal Palace (Sky Sports, 17 August).

Foot Mercato journalist Santi Aouna reported on 17 August, that technical director Tim Steidten was set to jet out to Amsterdam to continue talks for Kudus, but it seems as though Chelsea could potentially hijack the move.

Taylor tweeted: “West Ham pressing to strike agreement with Ajax for Mohammed Kudus. Threat of potential hijack from Chelsea has intensified after Michael Olise penned new deal w/Crystal Palace.

“Also mutual interest from Chelsea & West Ham United in Brennan Johnson & Elye Wahi.”

Ohh no

Just when West Ham United had thought they’d had a clear run to complete a deal for Kudus – and what an exceptional transfer it could turn out to be – Chelsea could look to throw their weight around once again.

The West London club have been incredibly active again this summer, completing big-money moves for Moises Caicedo and after their failed pursuit of Olise from Palace, they’re now turning their attention to Kudus which could spell bad news for the Hammers.

West Ham

However, the Irons can offer Kudus something Chelsea can’t and that’s the lure of European football in the Europa League for which Moyes is desperate for his side to be ready and well-stocked as they also desire an improvement on the domestic front.

With Lucas Paqueta most likely to follow Declan Rice and Gianluca Scamacca out of the London Stadium in the coming weeks, the Hammers are desperate for a direct replacement and Kudus represents the perfect solution giving his tremendous versatility, talents and readiness to compete at the highest level.

Certainly, Chelsea may well enter the race for his signature but Kudus is the kind of player the Hammers should be fighting tooth and nail for, and what an incredible statement it could be should they beat their London neighbours to his signature.
