Chelsea may look to hijack West Ham United pursuit of Edson Alvarez
Chelsea could look to scupper the West Ham pursuit of Ajax midfielder Edson Alvarez this summer after they meet a transfer roadblock.
The Hammers look keen on signing the Mexico international and personal terms are not expected to come in the way.
Sky Sports’ Dharmesh Sheth claims that the two clubs are discussing a transfer fee before the deal for the 25-year-old can get done.
Via Twitter, he wrote, “West Ham United increasingly hopeful of signing Ajax midfielder Edson Alvarez. Clubs are in advanced talks with discussions centred on final fee and structure. West Ham encouraged by the player’s desire to join and personal terms not expected to be a problem.”
The Blues have been linked with him for over a year and are looking for a commanding presence in the middle of the park.
They have been targeting Moises Caicedo from Brighton but the price tag is proving to be too much for them to digest.
It has been reported by the London Evening Standard on 4 August that the 25-year-old Mexican is among many players on their list of alternatives.

It’s evident that they can offer more than the Hammers in terms of wages and even with no European football, they could possibly look to hijack the deal.
From the options mentioned in that list, Alvarez seems one of the most attainable ones and the fact that he’s open to moving to England works in their favour.
It remains to be seen if they do make contact but there’s always the possibility of them doing so.
In other West Ham news, the club have now opened advanced talks with a Premier League player who appears to be open on leaving his side this summer.
