Chelsea make Ian Maatsen transfer decision amid West Ham United and Manchester City links

Chelsea have decided whether or not they want to sell Ian Maatsen amid interest from West Ham, Manchester City, Borussia Dortmund, Roma and Napoli, per 90Min.

The news outlet reported on 18 December that the Blues have decided to sell him, having already accepted a loan plus £31.5million obligation to buy offer from Burnley in the summer, only for the 21-year-old to turn it down.

The Dutchman has struggled for game time this season under Mauricio Pochettino and is open to sealing a Stamford Bridge exit.

West Ham

Worth considering

Maatsen’s potential move to West Ham could be a valuable acquisition for the club, especially considering his proficiency as a left-back, a position that aligns with the team’s needs.

With Pochettino favouring Levi Colwill, a centre-back at left-back over Maatsen at Chelsea, the Dutchman’s desire for regular playing time could be fulfilled at West Ham, providing the Hammers with a dynamic and eager left-back option.

However, securing Maatsen ahead of Manchester City might pose challenges.

West Ham

The interest from both clubs indicates a competitive market, but West Ham could offer him more consistent playing opportunities, enhancing his development and contributing to the team’s defensive depth.

It’s evident that the Dutchman wants game time and that may not arrive in the near future under Pep Guardiola, but it could under David Moyes.

It remains to be seen how much the Blues end up asking for him but if Moyes wants him, there certainly is a deal to be done.
