Charlton Athletic submit offer to sign Conor Coventry from West Ham United
Charlton Athletic are in the hunt to sign West Ham academy graduate Conor Coventry, according to Richard Cawley.
The South London Press journalist reported via his personal Twitter account on 5 January that the Addicks have “offered a deal” to the 23-year-old Hammers midfielder.
Coventry has made upwards of 50 appearances for Lincoln City, Peterborough United, MK Dons and, most recently, Rotherham United, unable to stamp his mark on the Hammers squad under David Moyes.
Not ready yet
Charlton are looking to revamp their midfield with a couple of young loanees, targeting Coventry from the London Stadium and Manchester City’s Lewis Fiorini, who has similar experience and playing style to the West Ham man.
Moyes will be hoping that Coventry can cement a spot in the starting XI of the League One club if he is to leave on loan during the January transfer window.
With just six points separating Charlton from the League One relegation spots, Coventry could offer a breath of fresh air. It also makes sense for the Hammers, who clearly feel he is not ready for Premier League football yet.

Moyes will require experience during the current campaign, pushing for the top four spots in the Premier League and Europa League success too.
The midfielder may be given a final opportunity to prove himself when West Ham take on Bristol City in the FA Cup on Sunday 7 January, but it seems another loan deal is the most likely outcome right now.
Another loan deal could be the difference between a rotational spot in Moyes’ squad or a permanent move away from London Stadium in the summer when his contract at the London Stadium expires. Coventry needs to be ready soon, with younger talents snapping at his heels.
