Charlie Nicholas: David Moyes will be furious with West Ham star Michail Antonio

Charlie Nicholas believes David Moyes will be livid at West Ham star Michail Antonio for his red card last weekend.

Antonio, 31, was dismissed in Saturday’s 0-0 draw with Southampton on Saturday after picking up two yellow cards.

Ex-Saints star Matt Le Tissier asked Nicholas what his former Celtic teammate would be thinking on the latest ‘Where’s Jeff ?’ podcast [16/09/21].

Le Tissier said: “How annoyed do you think David Moyes will be at that stupid challenge in the 95th minute down at St. Mary’s?”

Nicholas replied: “Well, I think he’ll be furious but if you saw him when Antonio was coming off he gave him a little pat on the back as if to say ‘you’ve started the season well, but you’ve now let me down’.

“But then he had the reality check that he went into the bus and probably went ‘oh my goodness it’s my old club Manchester United next’.”

Every cloud…

Antonio’s suspension for Sunday’s clash with Manchester United means he is nigh-on guaranteed to start Thursday’s Europa League encounter with Dinamo Zagreb.

Given his injury history and his recent international commitments with Jamaica, it’s hard to imagine Moyes would have started him twice in less than 72 hours.

The Premier League takes precedence, so Antonio would likely have been rested for the trip to Croatia.

As it is, he looks set to spearhead the Irons attack against the side that dumped Jose Mourinho’s Tottenham Hotspur out of the competition last season.

Moyes will have to switch things up on Sunday, but at least he can call upon Antonio to help fire them past Dinamo tonight.

In other West Ham news, an ex-PL ref believes this Irons ace should be banned until October after a recent incident.
