Charlie Adam tears into ‘disrespectful’ West Ham United after new Julen Lopetegui update

West Ham United have been torn into by Charlie Adam for their “disrespectful” approach when handling David Moyes’ future at the London Stadium.

It is becoming increasingly likely that the Hammers boss will depart at the end of the season, with some reports suggesting the Irons could make a final decision on his contract before the clash with Manchester City.

Julen Lopetegui has emerged as the current front-runner to take over the reins and while BBC Sport pundit Adam thinks supporters want to see a change in the dugout, he has been left baffled by West Ham’s handling of the situation.

Speaking on the BBC’s Football Daily podcast (3 April, 27:00) he said: “I think this is a West Ham decision from the outside in terms of the supporters making this decision. The noise that they’re making, they’ve done this before and it never worked and they went back to Moyes to rescue them.

“He’s done an incredible job and I think it’s just a bit disrespectful in terms of what has happened in terms of seeing managers flying in on private jets, sources close to the football club saying their close to Lopetegui.

“This manager has done an incredible job for you and it will be a real sad way for David Moyes to walk away if he has to. I think he deserves an opportunity to take the football club forward.”

Will West Ham United sack David Moyes and appoint Julen Lopetegui at the London Stadium?

As Adam suggested, the supporters have been the primary part pushing for a managerial change this season, with the general consensus being that a more attack-minded manager could take the Hammers to the next level.

While Moyes has been a success in the past at the London Stadium, the results in all competitions have been nowhere near good enough in 2024 and the blame for that simply has to lie at the manager’s door.

Most pundits and fans will agree that the entire situation could have been handled with more class from the football club, but in the modern age of social media, it was always going to be impossible to keep all negotiations under wraps.

Hopefully, both the fanbase and Moyes will receive some clarity from those in charge at West Ham before the end of the season, but there will always be those who suggest the Scotsman is deserving of a new deal.
