Celtic manager Ange Postecoglou wants to take over at West Ham United if David Moyes departs – Sky Sports pundit

Celtic manager Ange Postecoglou would want to take over the reins at West Ham if they sack David Moyes, believes Glen Johnson.

The Scotsman has been linked with a sack amid poor performances at the Hammers, but given the prospect of winning a European trophy and the fact that relegation appears to be a foregone conclusion, he still remains in the job.

However, that hasn’t stopped managers being linked with the London Stadium hot seat and one such name is that of Postecoglou.

West Ham

Speaking to King Casino Bonus, Johnson, a Sky Sports pundit, said, “Ange Postecoglu shouldn’t take on the challenge, but I’m sure he would want to. He is doing well at Celtic – but that is not a difficult job to do.

“Celtic are way better than West Ham at the moment, but any manager would take an offer from the Premier League quite seriously.”

Why not?

Managers often use the SPFL clubs as stepping stones to land themselves jobs at Premier League sides and the Australian can do exactly that.

Brendan Rodgers and Steven Gerrard both impressed at Celtic and Rangers respectively and left those jobs for mid-table Premier League sides.

Should the Hammers win the Conference League, they will have Europa League football next season and that could be something that’s enough to tempt Postecoglou, someone who’s got a 74.5 per cent win rate at Celtic.

There will also be a decent amount of money to spend as Declan Rice’s sale will rake in a lot of funds and a rebuild could be needed.

We can’t understand why Johnson is saying that Postecoglou shouldn’t take up the job as it’s an exciting prospect and he’ll manage in the best league in the world and live in London as well.

Graham Potter’s name has also been thrown into the mix and it will be interesting to see if the club decides to approach him as well.
