Carlton Palmer expects Lingard to snub West Ham for Manchester United
Former Premier League midfielder Carlton Palmer has claimed that Jesse Lingard will not sign permanently for West Ham United this summer.
He believes that his performances at the London Stadium have merited him for a starting position at Manchester United and expects Ole Gunnar Solskjaer to change his mind on the player.
Lingard has been in fine form since joining West Ham on loan in January, scoring nine and assisting four in 13 Premier League appearances.
His stock has undoubtedly risen and there has been interest from other Champions League sides who are willing to take a punt on the mercurial England international.
However, Palmer believes United will not be selling him. He told Football FanCast, “I don’t think they’ll be able to get Lingard on a permanent deal.
“I think he’s played his way back into the Manchester United starting line-up, and we will have to see how he does, but he will probably start at the Euros.
“Manchester United are a massive club and West Ham just don’t pay that type of money on a regular basis and David Moyes knows that.”
Got to be joking
Reports that have come out of Old Trafford have suggested that Solskjaer is not keen on keeping Lingard at the club.
It’s also rumoured that the club would consider using the England international as a sweetener in their quest to sign Declan Rice. [Manchester Evening News]
Right now, he’s more likely to play for West Ham than Manchester United next season, so we don’t know where Palmer is coming from.
Our only worry is that sides like PSG or Real Madrid don’t show a legitimate interest as there’s very little chance he’ll turn them down to play for us.
That said, the club will be doing everything in their power to hold on to him, and per Eurosport, are closing in on sealing a permanent deal worth £25m for him.
Let’s hope we get that over the line and sign a striker and centre-back at the very least.
