Carlton Cole shares Scott McTominay ‘big step up’ verdict amid West Ham United links

Carlton Cole believes it would be a “big step up” for Scott McTominay to move from Manchester United to West Ham.

The former Hammers striker added that the Red Devils midfielder could “definitely” do a job in replacing Declan Rice.

Cole was discussing the player after he was mentioned in a report from The Telegraph (21 June) concerning a potential Manchester United swoop for Rice, which could see McTominay move in the other direction.

West Ham

“I feel he can come in and do a job, definitely,” Cole said live on talkSPORT.

“But it will still be a big step up for him. It’s a step up to fill that role, to be the main man in a team.”

West Ham

Great move

West Ham definitely hold all the cards when it comes to the future of star man Rice, with the club currently holding out in terms of the England international as they look to get the best deal possible.

The player himself seemingly has a pick of the top teams in world football, but it is the Hammers who will ultimately want to figure out the most suitable outcome.

It could come down to whoever offers the most money, but hopefully the East London outfit also consider Rice and give him the best chance of progressing at the right club.

He has been a great servant to the Hammers over the years, and now deserves his time in the spotlight at a top side that is constantly challenging for silverware.

West Ham will want a huge fee, but they could benefit further by bringing in a suitable replacement, and they could certainly do a lot worse than McTominay.
