Carlton Cole sends message to Michail Antonio after West Ham 2-1 win v Leeds
Michail Antonio continued his mind-blowing run of form in front of goal against Leeds United on Saturday, bagging the winner in the 2-1 win for West Ham.
The Jamaican international striker, 31, has now scored five goals and assisted another three in five Premier League appearances so far in 2021-22, and he also has a goal in the Europa League.
His strike at Elland Road helped the Hammers leave a tough ground with all three points, and Carlton Cole was blown away.
Antonio posted on his personal Instagram account on Saturday evening after the game.
He said: “Everyone loves a last minute winner. Fans were amazing and got us there today!
“That goal was for you mum happy birthday.”
An impressed Cole took to the comments section to reply.
World-class?
It is too early to call the Irons hitman a world-class player, but if he keeps banging in the goals like he has done in recent months, he is definitely on his way to becoming a legend for the club.
Antonio scored 10 league goals last term and has already reached half of that tally with 32 games still to go.
At this rate, the West Ham star will fancy his chances of challenging for the Golden Boot if he can stay fit for the whole of the season.
The Hammers lost the only Premier League game he did not feature in, and he is very crucial to David Moyes’ attacking plans.
West Ham can perform miracles if they can manage to keep him away the treatment room this term, and opposition managers will be studying clips of his performance to find a way of stopping him.
Antonio is a beast bullying defenders at will, and he could be key to their first silverware since 1980 and a top-four finish this term.
