Carlton Cole savages West Ham player for not ‘pulling his weight’ v Liverpool
Carlton Cole has slammed West Ham playmaker Felipe Anderson for not “pulling his weight” against Liverpool on Monday night.
The Hammers were sunk 3-2 in a dramatic match at Anfield that saw them squander an unexpected 2-1 lead over the league leaders.
And the former Irons hitman was less than impressed with what he saw from the Brazilian.
Speaking on Sky Sports’ The Debate, he said: “Felipe Anderson for me is a great player but he’s just not pulling his weight about, at the moment.
“I don’t like to batter my colleagues as footballers, but he should be doing a lot more.
“He’s got so much talent but he just didn’t look bothered [against Liverpool]. He is an important player for us. I just wanted for him to have a good game and then take that confidence into the next one, which I don’t think he really did.”
Does Carlton have a point?
Absolutely, yes.
We all know what Anderson is capable of, but far too often he has fallen below the usual high standards that he has set in east London.
There were flashes of what he can do against Liverpool, but aside from his five successful dribbles, as per Whoscored, the was another lacklustre performance.
With no key passes and a pass completion rate of just 70%, this was an uninspired, wasteful display from the South American, and one that typified his season so far.
We know he can do more, but he needs to start showing it, pronto.
In other West Ham news, Danny Mills left ‘buzzing’ by rarely seen Hammers ace after Monday outing.
