Carlton Cole has compared West Ham defender Craig Dawson to former Chelsea captain John Terry ahead of their Europa League clash on Thursday.

While the Hammers players were warming up for the Rapid Wien clash, Cole, a former striker for the club, was in awe of Dawson, who is likely to be Kurt Zouma's partner for the rest of the season.

With Angelo Ogbonna ruled out for the rest of the season, Dawson is next in the pecking order for Moyes.

Speaking on BT Sport, Cole said, "Dawson last season was unbelievable. He's one of those players with a magnet head.

"Any ball in the air will come straight to his head and he will clear it. He reminds me of John Terry."

Some comparison

While we hated Terry's guts during his playing days, it's hard to deny what an exceptional talent he was.

From England's golden era, he was their best defender, which is say something, given the array of riches in that squad.

He's gone down in history as a Premier League legend and has won countless trophies with Chelsea, including the English top flight as well as the Champions League.

Dawson has the chance to deliver European glory this season and hopefully, he can take his game to the next level in Ogbonna's absence.

We still think that the club would be best suited to buying another defender in January, just to ease the workload, but it remains to be seen what they do.

Until then, we know that Dawson can deliver whenever thrown into the team and we're hoping to see more Terry-esque performances from him.
