Carlos Tevez says West Ham must keep working together to continue ‘incredible’ rise

Former West Ham favourite Carlos Tevez has urged the Hammers to capitalise on their recent success by establishing themselves at the highest level.

The diminutive Argentine netted seven times for the Irons as they avoided relegation from the Premier League in 2006/07, and says the club has come on rapidly since his departure 15 years ago.

Now though he is desperate to see them take advantage of their remarkable transformation under David Moyes, and pleaded with everyone at the club to work together to establish West Ham as a real European powerhouse.

West Ham

“The Club has a real identity and it’s important they continue with this form in their matches and qualify for Europe because they’re starting to become a top European side,” he told the official West Ham website (19 April).

“It’s vital that they keep working in the same way and that the Club continues to grow. I think it’s always down to a team of people when things are going well, that is clear at the Club.

“I think it’s a joint effort, not just from the coach, but also the directors and chairpersons are all working together to keep on growing.”

Take Advantage

Tevez is certainly right in that the situation at West Ham is remarkably different to the one he will have walked into alongside Javier Mascherano.

The Irons are in a European semi-final for the first time in 46 years and look in a good position to be playing some form of continental football next season.

To ensure that remains a common theme though and not just a flash in the pan, Tevez is right that decision making at the top has to be absolutely spot on.

West Ham

Bringing back David Moyes has been a masterstroke but to keep up his brilliant work he’ll need reinforcements in the summer for what is a fairly thin squad not really equipped for the rigour of European competition.

Win the Europa League this season and they’ll be in a strong negotiating position for any signing but even without that, they should be able to bring in a decent level of personnel.

A crucial summer coming up for the future of West Ham that could define both their immediate and long term future.

In other West Ham news, the club have already picked out this cup finalist as a potential summer signing.
