Carlos Borges frustrations at Manchester City emerge as West Ham United beat Brighton in transfer race

Carlos Borges is understood to be “frustrated” at Manchester City as West Ham look set to beat Brighton to sign him, per Six Foot Two.

The reliable London Stadium source claim [21 July] that his frustrations spell from the lack of playing time under Pep Guardiola at the Etihad Stadium.

Borussia Dortmund and Eintracht Frankfurt were understood to be keen as well but the Hammers are understood to have won the race and are in advanced talks to sign the 19-year-old Portuguese winger. [Evening Standard – 20 July].

Good move?

It’s been clear that the Hammers needed a wide attacker this summer but few expected them to sign someone from Manchester City.

Borges is yet to make his senior Premier League bow and that’s a relatively steep fee for someone not proven yet.

He may be highly rated at the youth level, but senior football is a completely different ball game and there is some element of risk involved here.

It remains to be seen whether or not David Moyes introduces him to the senior side straight away or if he takes a more cautious approach.

Borges would want assurances over playing time at the senior level as he’s leaving a club that’s just won the Champions League.

Few academies in Europe produce the sort of talent like City’s so players only leave if they’re getting first-team football elsewhere.

In other West Ham news, the club have now opened advanced talks with a Premier League player who appears to be open on leaving his side this summer.
