Cambridge fans on their feet to applaud Said Benrahma as West Ham United ace shines in friendly

Said Benrahma scored a wonderful effort on Tuesday evening as West Ham continued their Premier League preparations with a 4-2 win over Cambridge United.

It’s just under three weeks until West Ham resume their Premier League campaign with a trip to league-leaders Arsenal, and the Hammers ramped up their preparations by facing Cambridge in a testimonial match for Greg Taylor.

Jarrod Bowen, Benrahma and Pierre-Emmanuel Ekwah scored in the victory, with the other goal coming via a Cambridge own-goal.

But Benrahma’s effort stood out among the rest – the Algerian cut in from the left and curled his effort into the top right-hand corner of the net.

The Athletic‘s Roshane Thomas watched on as Benrahma lit up the match and revealed via Twitter that his goal even had home fans on their feet.

“Great goal from Benrahma.” tweeted Thomas. “So good that some of the home fans got up to applaud.”

Raring to go

Benrahma has been the centre of West Ham discussion this season, with David Moyes often choosing to substitute him or bench him despite his impressive form.

But Benrahma has taken it in his stride and is proving to Moyes that he is undroppable for the second half of the season.

Moyes is under huge pressure to turn things around for West Ham this season after they slumped to 16th in the table.

Goals have been a huge struggle for the Hammers and Benrahma is proving that he knows how to find the back of the net. Bowen also etched his name onto the scoresheet, and Moyes should be planning to start with both winger on either flank against Arsenal on Boxing Day.

Benrahma’s goals will help to relieve the pressure on Michail Antonio and Gianluca Scamacca up front. West Ham have only scored 12 in 15 league appearances – there’s no excuse for Moyes to leave Benrahma on the bench anymore.
